The double portrait of Princes Franz de Paula (1802–1887) and Karl Johann (1803–1871) von Liechtenstein depict the children of Prince Johann I in their unselfconscious interaction with nature and as they look at drawings. The painting creates an atmosphere of instinctive serenity; the children appear as if they were completely unaware of being observed.
